Khanty-Mansiysk welcomes everybody for the World Chess Cup 2011!

The tournament will be hosted by the capital of Ugra from 27 August till 20 September. 128 sportsmen from 46 countries of the world will participate in it. Salem Saleh (UAE), who was the winner of the Zonal Championship became the last challenger in the struggle for the trophy. The participants of the World Chess Cup 2011 will be World Champions, semi-finalists from the World Cup 2009, Woman’s World Champions, World Junior Champions 2009 and 2010, twenty rated FIDE qualifiers in 2010—2011, ninety players from Continental Championships of Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa in 2010—2011, six FIDE President nominees and also four organizer nominees.

It stands to mention, that the list of the participants almost fully consist of men. Only two chess-players — the World Champion among women 2010 Hou Yifan (China) and the third in the best chess-player rating of her country Udit Polgar (Hungary), will contend to win the Cup on equal terms.

On the 24th of August three chess players and FIDE technical support have arrived in the airport of the Ugorian capital. The Turkish Grandmaster Esen Baris as well as Spanish chess players Francisco Valejo Pons and Ivan Salgado Lopez are already preparing for the tournament. Other participants will be arriving in Khanty-Mansiysk from 25 to 27 August 2011.

On the World Cup Ugra will be presented by International Grand Masters Nikolay Kabanov, Aleksey Bezgodov, Aleksey Pridorozhniy and Vladimir Genba.

As the press attaché of the Cultural Centre «Ugra-Classic» informs, all the guests of the Opening Ceremony will witness the bright and spectacular event. The chess players will be surprised already at the entrance to «Ugra-classic».  The ornamental column with historic personages, show of chess games played by the young Ugra chess players and models wearing the fashion collection devoted to the World Chess Olympiad designed by Elena Skakun — this is the smallest part of what the organizers have prepared to amaze the guests with.

The Cup winner and two next positions will qualify for the Candidates stage of the World Chess Championship 2014.
