WORLD CUP

 

nullOriginally, it was a top tournament organized by FIDE for men and women with a prize fund of over US$ 400,000. The tournament was first organized in 2000 and 2002 using the KO format system.

The first event organized in China was won by Vishy Anand and Xu Yuhua. India hosted the second event which saw the same winners.

Then, in 2005, the tournament, for men only, became qualification for the World Championship cycle.

The winners of the events organized in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, were: 2005 Levon Aronian, 2007 Gata Kamsky, 2009 Boris Gelfand and 2011 Peter Svidler.
