VIETNAM
The National Team finished second in the Asian Team Championship in 2009 and third in 2008, the women's team won the Asian title in 2005 and 2009. The country has many young talented players. Among them are: Le Quang Liem, Ngoc Truongson Nguyen who was the world's second youngest Grandmaster in 2004. Vietnam has organised the South Asian Games in 2003 and the World Youth Chess Championships in 2008. The last champions were: 2000 Tu Huang Tong, 2001 Dao Thien Hai, 2002 Dao Thien Hai, Nguyen Anh Dung and Tu Huoang Tong, 2003 Dao Thien Hai (100%), 2004 Dao Thien Hai, 2005 Nguyen Anh Dung, 2006 Nguyen Anh Dung, 2007 Le Quang Liem, 2008 Tu, Hoang Thong, 2009, Bui Vinh, 2010 Le Quang Liem, 2011 Dao Thien Hai.

The Lien Doan Co Viet Nam joined FIDE in 1988. The country has participated in all the Olympiads since 1990 with the best achievement made in 2008 with the ninth place. Nguyễn Anh Dũng was awarded a silver medal for the second best individual result at board 2 in 2004.
