Biography

Filipino Grandmaster (1976). Lawyer, writer and journalist. Best Asian player of the 1960s. Seven-time champion of the country. At the 1966 Olympiad he was awarded a silver medal for his second place on board 3 (behind Tal) with 15½ points out of 20. Best results in the International tournaments: Melbourne 1975, zonal-3-4^th, Manila 1975- 6-7^th, Odessa 1976-1^st, the first foreign victory in the USSR since Capablanca’s in 1936, Dortmund 1976-4^th, Manchester 1979 –3-5^th, Dubai 1984-4-6^th. A participant in the Olympiads from 1966 until 1976. Best rating: 2517 in 1977.
