Biography

U.S. Grandmaster (1968) born in Ukraine who emigrated to the USA in 1976. Tied second in the 1997 World Senior Championship and also winner of a bronze medal in 1999. Champion of Moscow in 1971.

Winner in Sarajevo 1968, Moscow 1970, Cienfuegos 1972, Novi Sad 1972 and 1973, Varna 1974, Rome 1976, US Open (shared) 1976 New York 1977, Brisbane 1979, Grand Manan 1984, Berlin 1984, Vestmannaeyjum 1985 (ISL).

A member of the U.S. team who took the bronze at the 1978 Olympiad. A participant in six USSR championships, his best ranking was sixth in 1966.

Author of In the World of Tactics (1998).

In 2005 Lein was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame (USA). Best ELO: 2535 (1979).
