The first Turkish Grandmaster (1994). Graduated in Psychology. Coach.

Turkish Youth Champion U13, U16 and U20. Turkish Champion in 1987, 1988 and 2007. Mediterranean Champion in 2007.

Won or shared first at Budapest in 1992, Karize in 1994, Beijing Open in 1996, Hawaii in 1997, Chicago in 1997, Szeged in 1997, Ljubljana in 1997, Alusta in 1999, Berlin Lasker Memorial in 2000, Podlenik in 2001, Mar del Plata Open in 2003, Lindsborg Open in 2004, Odessa and Zenica in 2004, East Bay CC in 2005, Subasic Memorial in 2005, Kavala and Pula Open in 2005, Wijk aan Zee III in 2006, Subasic Memorial (BIH) in 2006, Valjevo (SER) 2007, Konig memorial (USA) in 2007, Istanbul Open in 2008. After a break of two years following some political struggles with his federation, Suat won Negroponte International Open 2010, NAO Open (USA) 2011, North American Open 2011.

A participant in the Olympiads for Turkey from 1984 until 1998 and for Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2002 until 2006. A participant in the 2001 World Championship.

Atalik was awarded a Bronze Medal in 1988 for best performance on Board one, he also won the gold medal for best performance or board one at the 1997 European Team championship.

On November 11, 2005 he married 22-year-old Women Grandmaster and Internal Master Ekaterina Polovnikova from Russia. Best ELO: 2620 in 2005.
