Swedish Grandmaster (1991). Hector is also a Correspondence Grandmaster with an ICCF ELO of 2616.Hector grew up in Malmö, but he lives in Denmark.
In 1978, Jonny Hector had learnt the rules of chess and wanted to join a chess club. Hector has been called "Sweden's bravest chess player", a label which has stuck with him for many years, and even today this holds true. Hector still runs head-first into complications and has created a string of beautiful miniatures. Hector is the club players' hero, mostly due to his choice of openings. During the years, he has played many a Goering gambit, Latvian gambit, Schara-Henning gambit, and other openings along the same lines. However, in the last few years, a small change of course has come about. It takes more solid stuff to deal with top competition. The Swedish chess magazine "Tidskrift för schack" declared 2002 "The Year of Hector".
He won the Swedish Championship for the first time in 2002 and a number of other nice results brought him over the magic 2600 rating threshold. Since then, he has had mixed results and his rating is somewhat lower. Won also the Capelle la Grande in 1987, Rilton Cup 1992-93, Gausdal 1998, Hamburg 2000 and 2001, Skelleftei 2001 and Politiken Cup in 1998 and 2008.
Best ELO: 2609 in 2010.
