
Gavrikov Viktor Nikolayevich

Lithuanian-Swiss Grandmaster (1984) who played in four USSR championships between 1981 and 1987. He won several Category VIII and IX tournaments in 1983 and 1984, but his best results were equal 1st in the 1985 USSR Championship (XI) and equal 2nd in the 1986 USSR Championship (X). Lithuanian champion in 1978 and 2000 together with Viktorija Cmilyte.
In 1988 he finish second behind Anatoly Karpov after tie-break at the Rapid (then ‘Active’) Chess World Championship.
Other victories by Gavrikov includes Tbilisi 1983, Leningrad 1984, Naleczow 1984 and shared Budapest and Berlin 1989, Biel Open, Vienna in 1990, Geneva Open 1991, Wohlen 93, Zofingen 1995, Arosa 1996, Haertwall, Schacknytt 30th Anniversary 2000. Between 1990 and 1998 Gavrikov was living, playing and coaching in Switzerland. Best ELO: 2605 in 1995.
