United States Browne Walter Shawn (21.01.1949)
U.S. Grandmaster (1970) born in Australia, journalist and commentator. Six-time U.S. Champion in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1980, 1981 and 1983 and U.S. Senior Champion in 2005. Pan-American Champion in 1974. A participant in the Olympiads from 1974 until 1982. Won or shared first in Venice 1971, Wijk aan Zee and Lone Pine 1974, Mannheim 1975, Reykjavik 1978, Indonesia 1982, Wijk aan Zee (joint) 1980, Santiago and Gjovik 1983, Copenhagen and Naestved 1985.  Founder of the World Blitz Chess Association (WBCA). Browne was introduced to the US Chess Hall of Fame in 2003. Best ELO: 2585 in 1976.
