
Agzamov Georgy Tadjievich
(06.09.1954 - 27.08.1986)

Soviet International Grandmaster (1984), the first Grandmaster in Uzbekistan. Philologist. A participant in few USSR championships and a member of the winning Soviet team at the 2
ndTelex Olympiad.
Best results: Belgrade 1983, 1st; Vrsac 1983, 1st; Sochi 1984, 1st; Tunha 1984, 1st; Bogota 1984, 1st; Potsdam 1985, 2nd; Calicut 1986, 1st. At the 1982 FIDE Zonal in Yerevan he shared 7-8th places with Serguey Dolmatov.
Mark Taimanov said: “he was an extremely persistent chess player, with a splendid tactic eye-sight.”Agzamov was accidentally killed when he tried to take a shortcut to go swimming and fell between two rocks.
A Memorial Tournaments has been were organized in Tashkent in 1986, 1987 and since 2007.
The winners were:1986 Igor Novikov, 1987 Gennadi Kuzmin, 2007 Leonid Yurtaev, 2009 Vitaly Tseshkovsky, 2010 Maxim Turov and 2011 Tigran Petrosian.
