Dutch composer creator of two-, three- and many-move compositions in an orthodox style.
He was a judge, a composer, a critic and the author (with Koldijk A. M.) the well-known book: Thema-Boek (a collection of 300 themes), which was published in 1948. G. Smit reunited 111 of his compositions in the book: W. Nanning, which was published in 1958. He was a columnist of many magazines like De Problemist, Tijdschrift vd. Ned. Schaakbond. He was one of the founders ( with Niemeijer et Feenstra Kuiper) of the Dutch Chess Problem Association in 1931.
