Biography

Slovakia Formanek Bedrich (06.06.1933)
Slovakian chess composer, IM CC and prominent organiser.  Formanek was the Permanent Commission of the FIDE for Chess Compositions Vice-president from 1971 until 1982, the former President of the Permanent Commission of the FIDE for Chess Compositions from 1994 until 2002, the Honorary President of the Permanent Commission of the FIDE for Chess Compositions from 2002, the President of Czecoslovak or Slovak Chess Composition Organisation from 1952 to 2004 and the Honorary President of Slovak Chess Composition Organisation from 2004.  He was also the FIDE International Judge of Chess Composition (1966), FIDE Master for Chess Compositions (1990), the judge of approximately 100 tourneys and organiser of competitions, meetings, seminars and circles.  Formanek was the author of about 365 compositions in various genres, author or co-author of eight books, about twenty booklets, 180 articles and exactly 5000 columns until September 21st 2005 and the editor of chess composition magazines (Šachový Bulletin, PAT A MAT).
