Germany Holzhausen Walter Von (29.05.1876 - 09.08.1935)
German-Austrian player and chess composer. German chess master in 1925. Teacher in Mathematics and officer in the Prussian army. After the second injury during WWI, he fell into Russian captivity. Before his successful escape chess helped him to survive the East Siberian camp. His best results were the third place at Hanover in 1926 and at the German championship in 1927. Author of a row of chess variations, including variations named after him. Author of Logik und Zweckreinheit im neudeutschen Schachproblem. A specialist in compositions in orthodox genres, mainly in four-movers and many-movers. He gave his name to a theme: the Holzhausen interference.
