France Cheron André (25.09.1895 - 12.09.1980)
French player, analyst and composer. International Master for Chess Compositons, honoris causa (1959) and International Judge for Chess Composition (1957). National Champion (OTB) in 1926, 1927 and 1929. He was living in Switzerland for health reasons. He is remembered for studies of end-games published in his four volumes Lehr und Handbuch der Endspiele (1952-1970). Also wrote ‘Les Echecs Artistiques’ (1934), ‘Miniatures Strategiques Française’ (1936) and ‘Le Joueur d’échecs au pays des merveilles’ (published in 1982). He was also columnist at Le Temps de Paris and Le Journal de Genève.
