English problemist, one of the most famous female chess composers . She published about 2000 of her problems using the name "Mrs W. J. Baird". Created a composition genre – retractor. She composed over 2,000 two- and three-movers. Author of
The Twentieth Century Retractor (1907) and
Seven Hundred Chess Problem (1902). Her daughter, Lilian (1881-1977), was also a composer.
