Hungarian Grandmaster (1973), theorist and coach. Hungarian Champion in 1973 and 1984 and European Junior Champion in 1970.
Best results in Hungarian Championships: 1973 – 1-3rd, 1984- 1st.
Participated in several Olympiads which includes the historical victory in 1978 and four European Championships (in 1983 showed the best result on Board 5 with 5½ points out of 7). A participant at the Interzonals –Riga 1979-3-4th (drew the match for the third place with Zoltan Ribli 3-3), lost a quarter-final candidates’ match to Robert Huebner- 4½-5½ (1980, Bad-Lautenberg). Best results: Beverwijk 1972, 2-3rd; Varna 1972, 1st; Budapest 1982, 1st; Olot 1974, 1st; Lanzarote 1975, 1st; Banja Luka 1983, 1st; Sarajevo 1983, 2-3rd; New York 1987, 1-2nd. Adorjan is a chess player with an active positive style, performs confidently complicated positions, and is a master of counter-attacks. He has some works in different openings (Gruenfeld Defence, Nimzo Indian, etc). Worked for some time with Garry Kasparov in the early 80’s. Retired from international chess since 2000.
