The first Indonesian Grandmaster (1986). Gold medalist at the 2000 chess Olympiad for the best performance at board 1.

Best results: shared first at San Francisco 1987, at New York Open 1993, 1^st at Schaan 1993, won Kuala Lumpur Zonal in 1995. In 1997, he drew 3-3 with Karpov in a friendly match and also won the Burma Zonal in 1998. Finished second at Far East Zonal to qualify for the World Championship in 2001, won the 2003 SEA individual Championship. A participant to several Word Championships.

Best ELO: 2598 in 2001.
